My goal is to improve the education and training in Washington County Public Schools so that all students are nurtured for success. My platform includes smart school spending, preparing students for jobs, community engagement, and embracing our heritage and diversity.I was born in New York City and have been a proud resident of Boonsboro for the last 17 years. After studying at the Universities of Vermont and Missouri, I received my Ph.D. in immunology in 1985 from the University of Alberta. In my career as a research scientist, I have authored more than 50 publications. I taught microbiology at Shepherd Community College (now Blue Ridge CTC) in Martinsburg before joining the Personal Care Products Council in Washington DC as its senior microbiologist and environmental scientist in 2005. Since retiring in 2016, I have been expanding my business, Kensho Farms, a producer of certified-organic produce and have been active in many community organizations. My passion for education as well as my experience and analytical skills in making data- and results-driven decisions will be a great asset to the School Board to enrich the lives of students in Washington County.
